When an Attorney General prioritizes personal visibility, the law becomes a prop. Litigation strategies are chosen not for their legal merit or likelihood of success, but for their ability to generate headlines. This turns the Department of Law into a partisan weapon, eroding public trust in the one institution that must remain impartial.

Colorado faces complex, unglamorous challenges that cannot be solved on social media. Defending our water rights against downstream states is a matter of dense, technical contract law, not soundbites. Protecting consumers from sophisticated fraud requires forensic accounting and patient investigation, not grandstanding. Combating the fentanyl crisis requires collaboration with local enforcement, not battling for credit.

We need an Attorney General who finds glory in the details. Competence in this role means understanding that the Department of Law is essentially the state’s largest law firm.

It requires someone who ensures that when the state walks into a courtroom, it is the most prepared party in the room.

A competent AG understands that a case dismissed due to procedural error is a betrayal of the public. They understand that a "boring" settlement that returns millions to defrauded seniors is infinitely more valuable than a flashy lawsuit that gets tossed out of court but raises the AG's national profile.

Legal stewardship means protecting the rule of law even when it is politically inconvenient. It means giving the Governor and the legislature accurate legal advice—even if it’s not the advice they want to hear—because the Constitution matters more than the caucus.

When an AG prioritizes professionalism over politics, they become a firewall against chaos. They ensure that regulations are enforced fairly, that businesses have a predictable legal environment, and that victims of crime are championed without bias.

This is the difference between an AG who uses the law to elevate themselves, and one who lowers themselves to serve the law.
